Looking For The Perfect Church?
We're not it! That's because the church is comprised
of people. It is not just a building, but the community of people who attend. The Bible teaches us that
no one is perfect except God. If you're not perfect either we would
love to have you join with us in worship. Together we will
learn how to be transformed
[by God] through the renewing our minds. We believe that
God is in the business of mending broken lives and restoring
them to serve Him and to serve other people.
What We AreWe are people who love to help others find the Truth. We love to tell people about the One who can forgive us and create a clean heart in us.
We will partner with your family to teach Biblical truths to each member of your family. Through the ministries of the church we help families experience the love God has placed in our hearts.
Through local and foreign missions we help spread the good news of the Gospel of Christ.
Worship Services
During the school year (September to June) First Baptist holds two services
on Sunday morning. The first begins at 8:30 AM and the
second at 11:00 AM. They are not identical. The most obvious
difference is in the style
of music and the instruments. The first service music draws
largely from Christian artists popular in the last decade
or more recently and is accompanied
by a band with guitars, keyboard, and drums.
The second service music style draws largely from the old
time hymns from the last two centuries and is accompanied
by organ and piano. It is also when we hear our adult
choir. The differences go beyond the music as the format of the first service is less formal (ritualistic) than that of the second.
It is during the first service that we have our children's church (a.k.a. junior church) program for children age four through second grade. We would encourage you to try both out. In fact we have some members who do just that on a regular basis.
During the summer months we have one service at 9:30 AM. The music style varies. One week the worship band will play. Another week will feature the old time hymns. Other weeks it will be a combination of the two styles.
Children's church continues to be offered part way through the service throughout the year.
There Is No Dress Code
The common dress of our church attenders matches well the variety reflected in our communities. One suggestion is to wear what you might to school or the office or other workplace. You will be welcome regardless.
A Word About Our Name
The church was incorporated as The First Baptist Church of North Abington in 1886. As the years went on since and the communities of North Abington and Abington became less distinct, the common reference of the church omitted the ‘North’. So that today we are known best as the First Baptist Church of Abington.
